T-Ball Practice
The Windup
 Gabe tossing the t-ball. -- 8th May 04
A beautiful day today, breezy low 80's, lots of sun. I woke up early today after falling asleep early last night. I got the lawn mowed and gave Aleisha a bath all before 10am. Gabe had t-ball practice at 12:45 at Litz park. I finally got a few good pictures of Gabe catching and throwing the ball.

I think there are six or seven teams in the Jackson T-ball league this year. There are three coaches for his team and about fourteen or fifteen boys on the team. Gabe is playing on team R1 the Cardinals. That works out nice because he already had a Cardinals jersey from last year, so he's been wearing that at practice.

This was a tough practice. The coaches split the team into two squads and one worked on batting and letting the kids chase down the ball and throw it into home. The other coach was teaching the kids to be aware of where the ball needs to be thrown depending on where the runners are on base. The catching, throwing and hitting are the fun parts. Learning positions and what is going on in the game at this level is SO tough though! It's fun to watch and see how the kids do. There are a couple of pretty sharp kids on the team.

Play Ball!
Ready to take the field. -- 8th May 04
Gabe did pretty well, though he is a bit ball shy after getting hit in the face with a ball while playing catch during the second practice. We play catch at home with a tennis ball and he has no fear of that, but that rubber t-ball is just a bit more intimidating when it's coming toward your head. We'll have to work on that a bit and probably upgrade balls to get him more comfortable with it.

Two practices were rained out already and I think there's only one more practice left. Then they'll have to work the rest of it out as they go. The boys will be fine once they start playing and I'm sure that it will be very entertaining! School ends the 20th and I think the "season" starts the following weekend. I haven't seen a schedule yet.

Besides batting, Gabe's favorite part of the game seems to be jumping on the bases to watch the dirt billow off the bag.

After practice it was off to DQ for some cold refreshments!
