Emerson Bridge Dedication
Saturday December 13th, 2003

Had a great time at the Emerson Bridge dedication. We got there just after all the politcians had their words of wisdom to impart. I parked very close to the bridge on the southside of the road leadig up there. We had a short walk from where we parked. It was freezing out there though! Yikes! Alicia went with us.

Celebrating the opening of the new Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge, students from the University of Missouri at Rolla paraded their solar powered vehicle. -- SEMissourian
We arrived just in time for the parade of vehicles to go over the bridge and back. In fact we came upon the U of Missouri's solar car just being assembled. The driver was sitting prone in this cart loaded up with batteries and his pitcrew were just getting ready to hoist the top of the vehicle covered with solar panels and lower it down onto the body. It was neat to watch them assemble the car and get it ready.

There were three big tractor trailers hauling the Budweiser Clydesdales. We got to see them coming back over the bridge from Illinois as we were walking across the bridge. The eastbound lane was setup for the parade and the westbound lane was setup for the onlookers. We walked across to the better part of the other side and then made our way back to Missouri.

Siera had been dead set against going today. She changed her attitude and really enjoyed herself though. Just as we were leaving the snowflakes started falling.

Here is a link to the State Website with some cool pictures and info.
